(Soul) Allie – Cross My Mind

I came across Toronto based R&B Soul singer Allie very recently and I immediately recognized it as one of those soundcloud moments that was undeniably special. “Cross my mind” was my my first exposure to this Canadian Indie Soul Singer and her slow soulful crooning grabbed me immediately and made impression. Strange Creatures is her recently released EP and is now available on Band Camp for any price you name, which makes it worth picking up. You can pick up this track “Cross My Mind” on Soundcloud.

(Soul) New Single From ThunderCat – Heartbreaks + Setbacks

Thundercat Heartbreaks +Setbacks

Steven “ThunderCat” Bruner has been a member of the legendary thrash punk band Suicidal Tendencies a protégé of Steven Ellison (aka Flying Lotus), virtuoso bassist, composer, producer and singer. You can say that music flows through his veins, his father is an internationally renowned jazz drummer who played with the Temptations, Diana Ross, Gary Bartz and Gladys Knight. His brother Ronald Bruner, Jr., a Grammy-winning drummer has played with the likes of Roy Hargrove, Stanley Clarke, and Wayne Shorter.

His latest single Heartbreaks + Setbacks is and electro infused piece of Neo Soul that testifies to the complications of love.

“You know we tried way too hard to find A love that’s really blind so why even try? Because we know that there’s still hope Just don’t let go”

Culminating organic bass lines and heady melodies ThunderCat takes you into his personal space and let’s you experience the perfect understanding of what music was with the forward thinking mentality of what it will be. He’s part of a new mind-set of Jazz literate Hip-Hop instrumentalist or mutated Jazz cats (Thundercats) hell-bent on pushing boundaries and changing modern music. His new album Apocalypse is due out July 8th, I suggest you buy it.

“I do believe that hip-hop can be the new jazz, and I’m helping create that”
Steven Bruner

Michael Kiwanuka

We’re big fans of Michael Kiwanuka and we follow him so closely that we could probably be given a stalker status. So naturally when we heard he was collaborating with none other than Dan Auerback from the Black Keys, we pretty much wet ourselves on the spot. “Lasan” is a B-side track from the forth coming single “I’m Getting Ready” which is off his début album “Home Again” due out March 12th.  Now if you’re not familiar with Michal Kiwanuka you really have hit that snooze button.
